jorma hautala's (born 1941) art is largely based on the tradition of the bauhaus school and its principle of extending the influence of modernist aesthetic refinement to apply also to ordinary consumer goods and the everyday environment. thus his work is unusually versatile, ranging from painting and sculpture to graphic design, typography, lay-out, textiles, mural paintings and environmental colour schemes. he is one of the foremost protagonists of serigraphy in finland and in his works he combines geometric forms with a cool northern light and exquisite, often highly delicate chromaticism to produce a sensation of materialized light and motion in real space.
